Washington's Offense Strikes ThunderBolts 10-2

August 13, 2014 - Frontier League (FL)
Washington Wild Things News Release

Crestwood, IL-In what can only be described as a group effort, the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, posted 17 hits as they commanded their way to a 10-2 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts. Scott Dunn earned the win for Washington while Daniel Cropper suffered the loss.

The Wild Things took control of the game as soon as they took the field, stringing together four consecutive singles for two runs in the top of the first for an early 2-0 lead. RBI's were credited to third baseman Carter Bell and second baseman Garrett Rau.

First baseman William Beckwith increased the Washington lead to three runs in the top of the third when he cashed in on a Windy City error. Rau continued his dominance at the plate later in the inning, recording his second RBI of the night to put his team ahead 4-0. Designated hitter Cole Martin joined in on the hit parade as well in the third with his seventh RBI of the season, stretching the Wild Things lead to 5-0.

The chances of a shutout were thwarted in the bottom of the third when second baseman Mike Torres blooped a single into the outfield grass, scoring center fielder Andrew Brauer and inching Windy City within four runs. Washington regained their five-run lead in their next at bat thanks to a sacrifice fly by second baseman Ryan Kresky.

After going up by a score of 6-1 in the fourth, the majority of run support came from three and four batters Beckwith and Bell. Beckwith put the Wild Things ahead by six with an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning, and later outdid himself with an RBI double, following a seventh inning sacrifice by the ThunderBolts, to make it a 9-2 ballgame in the top of the eighth.

Bell tacked on another run later in the eighth, producing the 10-2 score. All in all, Beckwith and Bell combined for six of Washington's 17 hits and were credited with five RBI on the night. Bell and Beckwith were not the only Washington bats to produce on the night, however. In fact, every Washington player with a plate appearance recorded a hit, with five players knocking multi-hit games.

Washington looks to continue this offensive success as they take on Windy City in game three of their three-game series on Thursday, August 14. First pitch from Standard Bank Stadium is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. EST. Listen to WJPA 95.3 FM or follow the team on Twitter @washwildthings for live game updates.
