Joliet Slammers News Release

The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy- trailed 7-0 early and lost 9-3 to Lake Erie on Wednesday.

It was a rough outing for Joliet starter Matt Crim, who gave up 7 runs in the 1st three innings and was taken out after four innings and 89 pitches. He gave up a sacrifice fly in the 1st to Anderson Hidalgo and then a grand slam home run to Craig Hertler in the 2nd inning. That was followed by back to back RBI singles in the 3rd from Vincent Meija and Adam Ford to give Lake Erie a 7-0 advantage. Crushers starter Connor Whalen was outstanding, allowing only two hits over 6 innings with 7 strikeouts. At one point he retired 12 straight before the bullpen took over. Joliet's bullpen came on and pitched well too. The Slammers had good outings from Jordan Wellander, Kody McFarland and newcomer Andrew Strenge. He was just signed before the ballgame after pitching briefly for Florence last season. Tyler Thicke pitched the 9th for Joliet and allowed two runs. The first scored on a RBI double from Juan Sanchez and their last run came in on an error to make the score 9-0. Joliet tried to make a late rally in the bottom of the 9th and scored three times against reliever Brad Zambron. Chris Epps doubled to start the inning. He would score on a single from Matt Weaver as the leftfielder, Adam Ford, over-ran the ball allowing Epps to come across the plate. Russell Moldenhauer then launched a two-run homer to end the scoring at 9-3. It is Moldenhauer's 9th home run of the season and he now has a team-best 54 RBI.

In the middle of the 8th inning, the Slammers gave away $250 to lucky fan, Jeff Peterson, as part of their Amazing August promotion. Each home game in August will see one fan go home with at least $250 dollars. The higher that night's attendance, the higher the payout will be. The payout on Friday, August 1st to a lucky winner was $5000.

The home-stand concludes vs. the Lake Erie Crushers with a 7:05pm Thirsty Thursday featuring 2-buck Bud and Bud Light drafts as well as 2-buck Pepsi products. The team then hits the road to play three games against the Florence Freedom in suburban Cincinnati. Joliet returns home to play Rockford in a three-game set that begins with a 2-dollar Tuesday on August 19th at 7:05pm. Slammers action this summer is broadcast live on 1340 WJOL and wjol.com.
