River City Rascals News Release

August 12th, 2014 will be a day Hector Crespo will remember for the rest of his life. The second baseman from Miami, FL went deep twice against the Frontier Greys in an 11-1 victory for the Rascals, collecting 7 RBI on a three-run shot and a grand slam. The blasts were the second and third of the season for Crespo, and they propelled the Rascals to an easy win at T.R. Hughes.

Not to be overshadowed by Crespo was Tommy Mendoza. The veteran righthander went to work on the mound for River City and pitched six innings of four-hit scoreless ball to earn his sixth win of the year. Mendoza initially struggled, allowing two runners to reach as part of a thirty-pitch first inning. He looked untouchable the rest of the night though, giving up only three hits the rest of the way and keeping the Greys from reaching scoring position again until his final frame of work.

Crespo went off for his first homerun in the fourth inning. With the Rascals already up 2-0 against Greys starter Keith Picht, Crespo sent a blast over wall in right center to score himself, Joe Staley and Brian McConkey. The next man in the Rascal order, Eric Williams, would add to the fun by hitting a solo jack of his own right after Crespo. It was Williams' first homerun of the year.

Facing reliever Jacob Liedka in the fifth, Crespo would go deep to right center once again. This time his shot would clear the fence and the jammed base paths. His grand slam scored Brian McConkey, Carrillo, and Staley and made it 11-0, allowing the Rascals to put it on cruise control.

They would go on to win, 11-1. Mendoza got the win, while Picht, who surrendered eight earned runs in four innings of work, got the loss. It was the forty-sixth win of the year for the Rascals, who take on the Greys again at home tomorrow. First pitch will be at 7:05.
