Warriors Shut Out In Swift Current

Swift Current, SK - A slow start sunk the Moose Jaw Warriors on Lake Diefenbaker on Saturday night.

The Swift Current Broncos scored two goals in the first 3:20 and skated to a 4-0 win over the Warriors to split the weekend home-and-home set.

"You take away the first four minutes, it's a 0-0 game and we had more than enough looks in the second and third periods to even it up, left a lot on the table," Warriors assistant coach Scott King said.

Caleb Wyrostok scored only 30 seconds into the game and then added another one 2:50 later to give the Broncos, who were playing as the Lake Diefenbaker Slough Sharks for the night, an early lead.

Warriors forward Brayden Yager said their starts need to be better moving forward.

"It just shows you how much you have to play 60 minutes," he said. "They score two goals in the first five minutes and then that ends up being the game."

Moose Jaw put on a full court press after the two early goals, outshooting Swift Current 21-14 over the final two periods, including some grade 'A' scoring chances, but they couldn't finish.

"Credit to their goal, he played pretty well, but it's definitely frustrating," Yager said. "The amount of great opportunities we had was insane... at the end of the day, those have to go in the net."

King said it's a positive that the Warriors are generating the chances that they are.

"We've got to capitalize and find a way to put it in the back of the net, so it's disappointing that way," he said.

The Broncos added two empty net goals in the final four minutes to seal the win.

Moose Jaw comes out of the past week with four out of six points and sits in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, eight points back of Saskatoon and five points clear of Lethbridge.

Yager said the Warriors would have liked all four points this weekend, but there's areas to build off going into another three-game week.

"We played pretty well, we played better today than we did yesterday and just ended up being opposite," he said.

The Warriors return to the ice on Wednesday when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings to open the final month of the regular season.
