Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
REGINA S.K - The Brandon Wheat Kings' 3-1 lead was short lived as the Pats score 5 unanswered to sweep the weekend series to win 6-3.
The Wheat Kings came out very slow to start the game allowing the Pats to score the opening goal. It was Alexander Suzdalev taking a cross ice pass to give the Pats an early 1-0 lead. The Wheat Kings would storm back with Nolan Ritchie redirecting a Logen Hammett shot from the left point to tie it up at one a piece. Then, at the midway mark of the first period, Nate Danielson would score on a similar play with Quinn Mantei firing a point shot through to give the Wheat Kings a 2-1 lead. Then with under 5 minutes to go at the tail end of a powerplay Evan Groening would score his 5th of the season to give the Wheat Kings 3-1 lead heading into the 2nd period.
The second period was all Pats. It started with a a pair of powerplay goals. First, Stanislav Svozil would place a perfect pass to Tanner Howe who fired a shot on the sharp angle to cut the Wheat Kings lead to one. Then, 4 minutes later Svozil would place a point shot off a Wheat Kings stick and through Nick Jones to tie the game up at 3. The Pats would keep their foot on the gas pedal with Svozil generating a neutral zone turnover finding Alex Suzdalev all alone on a breakaway scoring his 2nd of the night giving the Pats their first lead since the 15 minute mark of the first period.
Heading into the third the Wheat Kings wouldn't be able to put one passed Kelton Pyne. The Pats would get a pair. One from Alex Suzdalev to complete his hat trick, then Connor Bedard adds the empty net goal to make it a 6-3 final.
