Prince Albert Raiders News Release
The Prince Albert Raiders saw their five-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday night, as they fell 3-1 to the Saskatoon Blades at the Art Hauser Centre. The Raiders split the weekend home and home set, after beating the Blades 6-5 in overtime on Friday night.
The Blades took a 3-0 lead after the first period, thanks to the help of a pair of powerplay goals. It took just eight seconds for them to score on their first powerplay of the game, as Jayden Wiens opened the scoring at the 11:23 mark of the game.
With 5:59 left in the first, Brandon Lisowsky made it a 2-0 lead. Trevor Wong threw a pass to the slot for Lisowsky, who let a one timer go, beating Max Hildebrand glove side.
That lead became 3-0 on Saskatoon's third powerplay of the period. With Hayden Pakkala in the box, the Blades took 13 seconds this time to capitalize. It was Jake Chiasson who buried his 18th goal of the season in close. Three goals in around seven minutes gave Saskatoon a 3-0 lead heading into the second period.
While there was no scoring in the second period, that easily could have been different if not for the play of Hildebrand in goal for the Raiders. The netminder made a handful of huge saves, most notably late in the frame as he shut down Brandon Lisowsky with a fine save on a breakaway.
Prince Albert had the lone two powerplays in the second period, but failed to score on either chance. Like the first period, the second period came to an end with the Blades leading things by a 3-0 score.
The Raiders got on the board quickly in the third period to bring themselves back into the contest. After a scramble play from a shot by Justice Christensen, the puck worked its way to the left circle, where Ryder Ritchie was parked. With Chadwick down and out, Ritchie fired a shot home for his 17th goal of the season, making it a 3-1 game.
Prince Albert turned up the pressure in the final 10 minutes, but couldn't find any more goals, as the Blades held on to win the game 3-1, snapping Prince Albert's five game winning streak.
The Raiders (24-29-3-0) will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday night when they host the Red Deer Rebels on "This Girl Can" night. Puck drop is 7pm.
