Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Santa Cruz Warriors (24-9) fell to the Oklahoma City Blue (24-9) tonight 116-102 at the Cox Convention Center. The two teams are now tied for the best record in the NBA G League, with the deciding game in the season series (1-1) set for Sunday, February 24 at Oracle Arena, the home of the Back-to-Back NBA Champion Golden State Warriors.
Warriors two-way guard Damion Lee, who re-joined the Santa Cruz Warriors earlier today, matched his season-high with 29 points on 10-of-19 from the field (52.9 percent shooting) to go with eight rebounds and four assists. Center Deyonta Davis collected 20 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks tonight for his first career 20-10 game.
The Oklahoma City Blue had six players in double figures tonight, featuring guard Scotty Hopson with 23 points and two-way wing Deonte Burton with 21 points. Blue reserves Chris Wright and Bryce Alford contributed 18 and 17 points, respectively, and center Richard Solomon secured a 10 point, 11 rebound double-double.
After a tightly contested first quarter, the Blue began the second quarter on a 16-5 run to take a 16 point lead. Lee then outscored the Blue 10-9 in the last five minutes of the period, leading a 19-9 Warriors stretch to end the first half down six points, 60-54.
Guard Kendrick Nunn scored 19 of his 21 points tonight in the second half to keep Santa Cruz competitive, including a 15-7 run at the end of the third quarter to bring the score to 86-78. However, the Warriors could not keep the Blue away from the rim, as 18 of the home team's 30 points came from drives to the rim as Oklahoma City cruised to their third straight win. This is only Santa Cruz's third loss of the season by 10 or more points.
Santa Cruz will now return home to host the division-rival Stockton Kings on Wednesday, February 6 at Kaiser Permanente Arena (tip-off 7:00 p.m. PST, NBC Sports Bay Area Plus).
