Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS - Tyson Spink scored with 13 minutes left in the third period to help Toledo claim a 3-2 victory over Wichita on Saturday night at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Macoy Erkamps and Louick Marcotte recorded goals for the Thunder and Blake Tatchell added two assists.
Wichita got on the board first as Marcotte fired a one-timer from the top of the right circle past Jake Paterson at 6:12 of the opening period. Toledo tied the game with three minutes to go in the first as a pass across the crease hit Tylor Spink's skate and got past Matt O'Connor.
The only goal of the second came from Mike Borkowski as he got around a sliding Alexis Vanier in the right circle and beat O'Connor for his first in a Walleye uniform.
Early in the third, Erkamps tied the game with a shot from the blue line after Tatchell won a face-off. Tyson Spink scored the game-winner at 7:05 as he came across the goal line and lifted a backhand from in-close past O'Connor for a 3-2 lead. Wichita pulled O'Connor and had two late chances, but couldn't find the equalizer.
Tatchell notched his second two-point outing of the week with two helpers. Erkamps tallied his fourth of the year and second goal of the week. O'Connor suffered the loss in his first start in a Thunder uniform, stopping 32 of 35 shots. Paterson earns his second win against the Thunder this week, stopping 17 of 19 shots he faced.
Wichita went 0-for-4 on the power play. Toledo was 0-for-4 on the man advantage.
The Thunder begins a five-game road trip tomorrow afternoon against the Tulsa Oilers at 4:05 p.m.
