Doubleheader Hockey Day in Allen
February 18, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans start a big day of hockey in Allen with the 8th Annual Allen Police vs. Allen Fire Charity Hockey Game at 5:05 PM, followed by the Americans and Rapid City Rush at 7:05 PM. Doors open at 4:30 PM.
The Americans swept a three-game series against Rapid City last week, outscoring the Rush 20 to 12 in the three games. The Americans are 3-1-0 against Rapid City this season, with the only loss coming in Allen early in the season. The Americans and Rush are headed in different directions as Rapid City is in last place in the Mountain Division, 30 points behind the first place Americans. Allen has won five straight games and currently has the most points in the league with 72.
"We have a deep roster and so teams can't focus on just one line," said Americans forward Dyson Stevenson, who will serve his two-game suspension beginning tonight against Rapid City.
Even with the loss of two big players like Greger Hanson and Josh Brittain, the Americans scored six goals last night against Indy. Chad Costello and David Makowski both extended their point streaks to 11 games last night. Makowski's 12-game streak is a season-high for Allen.
Riley Gill picked up his sixth shutout of the year last night. Gill leads the league in goals-against average (2.10) and save percentage (.937). Gill won his season-high tenth straight game last night,, as well as notching his 20th win of the year.
Jon Martin scored his second goal of the season last night for Allen with a wrist-shot from the slot that beat Indy goalie Jake Hildebrand. In five games with Allen this season, he has two goals and an assist for five points. Martin was assigned to Allen by the Americans NHL affiliate, the San Jose Sharks, via the San Jose Barracuda last week.
Tickets for tonight's hockey doubleheader are on sale NOW at Allen Event Center Box Office or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Call 972-912-1000 for more information. The Americans end the homestand on Sunday at 4:05 PM against Rapid City. It's also the 3rd Annual Pucks and Paws Game.
