Toledo would go in front by two at 10:40 of the first when David Gilbert wristed a shot past Wheeling goaltender Patrick Killeen on the power play. Defensemen Bryan Rufenach and Joey Ryan collected the assists on Gilbert's 5th goal this year.
"With the way this building is set up our message tonight was to get pucks deep in their zone and pressure their defensemen," said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. "We struggled to do that most of the night, but Alec Richards won us this one." The Nailers would even the game at two goals apiece with a pair of even strength goals in the second period. The second was contested as Walleye goaltender Alec Richards thought Peter Lenes kicked the puck past him. It was ruled a goal. The game would go all the way to a shootout. Toledo would get goals from David Gilbert and Joey Martin and Richards stopped all four he faced. Walleye Notes: Walleye goaltender Alec Richards finished with 42 saves and is 2-0-0-0 on the season. Toledo has at least one power play in five of the last eight games.
