Chicago Express News Release

North Charleston, SC - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, saw their South Division struggles continue, falling 3-2 to the South Carolina Stingrays at the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday night.

South Carolina owned the game's opening frame, as they struck twice in the first five minutes of the game. F Joe Pereira picked up an errant shot that bounced off the end boards and he placed a shot just inside the right post to give the Stingrays a 1-0 lead at 3:18. 1:30 later, South Carolina doubled their advantage, as D Derek Keller led a 2-on-1 up the ice and snapped a shot over the shoulder of G Peter Mannino. The score remained 2-0 at the end of the first period.

Chicago cut South Carolina's lead in half with an early second period power play. After a one-timer from D Scott Wietecha just missed the net, RW Tyler Donati picked up the rebound off the end wall and blasted it past G Philipp Grubauer, making the score 2-1 5:07 into the second period. The Stingrays answered before the end of the frame, however, as F Matt Scherer deflected a shot from D Zack Tarkir on the power play to put South Carolina back up by two with 7:33 left in the period. Chicago was outshot 16-7 in the frame.

C Aaron Marvin made things interesting in the third period, as he finished off a scramble in front of the net, sending a rebound into the cage and bringing the Express back to a one goal deficit with 7:34 remaining in the game. Despite a late flurry of Chicago shots, the Express were just unable to even the score, eventually falling 3-2 to the Stingrays.
