Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

A walk-off wild pitch on an attempted intentional walk in the bottom of the 10th lifted the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (20-18) to a 5-4 win over the Syracuse Chiefs (20-17) on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Park.

Darnell Sweeney drew a leadoff walk issued by Chiefs RHP Abel De Los Santos, advanced to second on a walk, to third on a sac bunt and scored when De Los Santos sailed a wild pitch over the catcher's head on an attempted intentional walk that would have been issued to pinch-hitter Brock Stassi.

De Los Santos (0.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB) was tagged with the loss and drops to 1-1 on the season.

RHP Luis Garcia (2.0 IP, H, 2 K) earned the win for the IronPigs to even his record at 1-1.

A three-run first opened up a 3-0 lead for the Pigs as Cedric Hunter (2-5, HR, RBI, R) led off with a solo shot off of Chiefs starter Aaron Laffey, Darin Ruf came through with an RBI single and

Sweeney plated a run via a sac fly. The home run was Hunter's third of the season.

In the top of the fifth with the bases empty and two outs, Pigs CF Cam Perkins robbed Scott Sizemore of an extra base hit with a diving, over-the-shoulder catch in deep centerfield to end the inning.

Sweeney (2-2, 2 BB, RBI, SB, 2 R) reached with a one-out single in the home half of the frame, stole second and scored on Will Venable's (2-3, RBI, 2 BB) RBI single to give Lehigh Valley a 4-0 advantage.

Laffey (n/d) gave up the four runs on eight hits to go along with three walks and four strikeouts in 5.0 IP.

Pigs starter Alec Asher was perfect through six innings, but Syracuse rallied to tie things at four apiece with a four-run seventh. Trea Turner led off with a double, advanced to third on a single and later scored on Matt Den Dekker's RBI groundout to cut the lead to 4-1 before Asher gave up back-to-back homers to Matt Skole and Jason Martinson which tied the game.

Asher (n/d) allowed the four runs on four hits while fanning four in his seven innings of work.

Making a rehab appearance, RHP Michael Mariot (1.0 IP, BB) had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.

In the top of the ninth, the Chiefs had the potential go-ahead run at third with one out, but Garcia was able to fan Jason Martinson and get Scott Sizemore to ground to third and end the inning.

The Pigs had runners at first and second with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but RHP Nick Masset (1.0 IP, 2 BB) got Perkins to ground into a 5-4-3 double play and end the threat.

The series wraps up on Wednesday at 10:35 a.m. as RHP Zach Eflin (4-0, 2.79) gets the ball for the IronPigs against Chiefs RHP Paolo Espino (1-3, 3.22).
