Rochester Red Wings News Release
BlCHARLOTTE, NC - Daniel Fields delivered a walk-off single after a Marcus Walden wild pitch pushed the winning run into scoring position as the Rochester Red Wings fell to the Charlotte Knights 3-2 in 11 innings Monday night at BB&T Ballpark.
Leury Garcia looped a single into left field with one out in the 11th, scampered to second after a botched pitch out by Walden (1-1) and scored on Fields' base hit.
The Knights (21-18) had the better chances in the late innings, pushing the winning run to second base with one out in the ninth and 10th innings but couldn't cash in thanks to solid bullpen work by Alex Wimmers, Ryan O'Rourke and Walden.
Kennys Vargas hit a long solo home run in the second inning off Erik Johnson but the Red Wings (20-18) were unable to generate much offense against the righty. Charlotte tied the game in the fourth on a Matt Davidson home run and took the lead in the sixth on Travis Ishikawa's blast, both off Tommy Milone. Milone scattered eight hits but allowed just two runs, thanks to no walks, while striking out four.
Rochester tied the game in seventh after Johnson departed with two outs. Stephen Wickens doubled in Adam Brett Walker to tie the game but Carlos Paulino was thrown out on a great relay to keep the game tied.
Will Lamb (2-0) tossed a perfect 11th inning to earn the win for the Knights.
Max Kepler tripled in the eighth inning and now has five three-baggers this season to lead the league. Wilfredo Tovar, Vargas and Wickens all had two hits in the loss.
