Rochester Red Wings News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC - Tommy Field went deep twice and Kennys Vargas homered for the third straight game Tuesday night as the Red Wings beat the Charlotte Knights 9-3 at BB&T Ballpark.

Field, who joined the Red Wings (21-18) after signing with the Twins on Saturday, tied a career-high by going deep twice. He last accomplished the feat on July 29, 2014 for Triple-A Salt Lake and now has four career multi-homer games.

Vargasnd Stephen Wickens also homered for Rochester, which homered a season-high four times in the win. Vargas is the first Wing to homer in three consecutive games since Chris Colabello in July of his 2013 MVP campaign. He also has driven in runs in six straight contests.

The Knights (21-19) were able to erase an early deficit as Travis Ishikawa drove in two runs in the bottom of the first off Red Wings starter Andrew Albers (2-0). Vargas gave the Wings the lead with a two-run home run in the top half. Wickens gave Rochester the lead for good in the third thanks to his third Triple-A homer.

Charlotte received a short start from Chris Beck (3-3) after Beck left the game after he was struck by a comebacker off the bat of Buck Britton in the fourth inning. The Red Wings plated four in that inning - two charged to Beck - to open up a 7-2 advantage. Field capped the frame with his first homer that also drove in newcomer Robbie Grossman.

Ishikawa homered in the sixth to cut the Rochester lead to 7-3. That would be as close as the Knights would get as the bullpen trio of Dan Runzler, J.T. Chargois and Buddy Boshers combined to keep Charlotte off the scoreboard over the final three innings. Chargois faced six batters, issuing one walk while striking out five.

Albers allowed 10 hits and a walk over 6.0 innings but was the beneficiary of three double plays behind him. Field finished the night 3-for-4 with four RBI.
