Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Coca-Cola Parked played host to the Hens once again on Tuesday night, as Toledo battled the Buffalo Bisons in the second game of their three game set. The Hens sent Thad Weber to the hill, as the right-hander came into the ballgame with a miniscule 1.61 ERA.

Scoring was hard to come by on Tuesday, as the two teams put a mark up in the first inning but were both quiet after that. Toledo's first run was manufactured in the top half, as Dixon Machado and Casey McGehee stroked back to back one out singles. With two runners on, Hens' slugger Chad Huffman hit into a fielders choice at second, however an errant throw from Buffalo shortstop Jio Mier allowed Machado to cross home.

The Bisons gave Toledo a bit of their own medicine in the bottom half of the first. Former Mud Hen second baseman Alexi Casilla singled on a hard ground ball to first, and proceeded to steal both second and third base putting himself in scoring position with one out. And, just as the Hens did in the first the Bisons also took advantage of an error from the shortstop as Casilla scored on an wild throw from Toledo's Dixon Machado to tie the game at 1-1.

Both hurlers were dialed in after their lone blemishes in the first. Buffalo lefty Wade LeBlanc shut down the Toledo offense over 6 1/2 innings, as he scattered just seven Toledo hits and punched out six. The southpaw lowered his team leading ERA to 1.64 after his exit on Tuesday. For the Hens, veteran Thad Weber picked up right where he left off, as he efficiently pitched to contact all night long. Weber allowed just six hits against the twenty seven total hitters he faced on the evening. Weber's night came to an end in the seventh after striking out Jio Mier, Weber's second of the game. The right hander exited after 7.1 IP, 6 H,1 R, 1 ER, 2 SO. Weber's ERA now sits at 1.49 as he also leads to the team in wins with his 5-1 record.

The scoring drought ended in the eighth, as Tyler Collins battled with one out. The left hander took Bison reliever Bo Schultz into an eight pitch battle and on the eighth, Collins won the quality at bat by sending a fastball to center field scoring Chad Huffman and retaking the lead 2-1. The single was followed by a long RBI double to center by Miguel Gonzalez scoring Collins. The two bagger was the backstop's fourth of the season. Gonzalez also crossed the plate adding to the Toledo lead on a single off the bat of Argenis Diaz.

The Toledo offense continued to let it all hang out in the ninth sending seven hitters to the plate, recording three runs on four hits. The frame was highlighted by three straight hits from Toledo's two, three, four hitters: Dixon Machado, Casey McGehee, and Chad Huffman. Miguel Gonzalez led the fourteen hit brigade on Tuesday, going 4-5 with 2 RBI.

Drake Britton and Dustin Molleken held down the lead for the final 1 2/3 innings in relief to secure the game two win for the Hens. The two teams battle it out in the final game of the series on Wednesday, first pitch is set for 1:05PM.
