Rockford Aviators News Release

LOVES PARK, IL - The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, are proud to announce that starting pitcher, Joey Wagman, has been purchased by the Oakland Athletics organization.

Wagman becomes the third Aviator this season to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization, joining Josh Slaats (Arizona) and Jose Martinez (Atlanta). He is also the 31st member of the Frontier League to have his contract purchased this season.

This season, Wagman posted a 6-2 record in 11 starts while posting a 3.05 ERA. He also led the league in strike outs with 85.

"Joey is one of the best players I've ever had the pleasure of coaching," said Aviators Manager, James Frisbie. "The guy always goes out and competes and he throws three different pitches for strikes. I honestly thought he would have been picked up three weeks ago, but I'm happy that he has this opportunity with the Athletics."

Wagman was named to the 2014 Frontier League All-Star Team this season for the West Division where he earned the save in the game.

This isn't Wagman's first time in affiliated baseball. He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 17th round of the 2013 Draft out of Cal Poly and spent one season with the Great Falls Voyagers, the White Sox's Rookie League Affiliate. In that one season, Wagman posted a 1-0 record in 16 games.

Wagman will be assigned to the Beloit Snappers, the Low-A affiliate of the Oakland A's organization and will be expected to get his first start on Thursday night against the Peoria Chiefs.
