Wild Things Split Double Header with Otters

Evansville, IN - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, won one of two in a scheduled double header at legendary Bosse Field Monday With the split, the teams remain tied for first place atop the Eastern Division of the Frontier League.

The Wild Things got things started off in their first at bat as right fielder Scott Kalamar picked up his 23 RBI with a sac fly to bring in center fielder Dan Poma, who led the game off with a leadoff walk and a stolen base that allowed Poma to score the game's first run. With two runners aboard for Evansville in the third, Ryan Kresky made a sensational play, backhanding a ground ball up the middle and making a jumping throw to first base to end the inning, leaving two runners stranded.

The Wild Things added an insurance run in the top of the sixth off a fielder's choice RBI from Carter Bell who plated Poma as he crossed home for the second time in the game. Washington pitcher Troy Marks improved his record to 2-0, pitchng a comlete game shutout after a dominating performance. The ace threw a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts and allowed only two hits.

In game two, first baseman William Beckwith's solo-shot homerun broke a scoreless tie in the second inning to make the score 1-0. Before the inning was over, with the bases loaded, Bell was able to walk home as Poma looked at ball four, to increase the lead to two.

Poma continued his extraordinary night at the plate in the fourth inning as he picked up his second RBI of the game with a sac fly, brining in Bell and extending the lead to three.

The Otters were able to plate three runs in the fourth off Wild Things' reliever Pat Butler giving up two hits, two errors and a wild pitch to tie the score at three.

John Schultz won game two in walk off fashion for the Otters in the bottom of the seventh. An RBI single to bring in Phillip Wilson for a close pay at the plate would be the winning run of the ball game, giving the Otters a 4-3 edge.
