
Vipers Hold On For A Two-Game Clean Sweep Against Mexico City

Edinburg, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (6-8), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, grabbed a 110-96 win over the Mexico City Capitanes (8-5) on Thursday night at Bert Ogden Arena.
RGV went on a 7-0 run to open up the first quarter. The team did not allow the Capitanes to score its first basket until there was 9:22 remaining on the clock and the score read 7-2. With less than three minutes to go, the Capitanes came from behind and minimized the Vipers lead to a score of 20-18. Despite the Capitanes efforts to take the lead, RGV walked away with a 31-23 lead at the end of the first.
Mexico City took its first lead of the game with a score of 36-35 and 8:32 to go in the second. RGV then took back the lead with a score of 38-36, but it did not last long as the Capitanes tied the game 38-38. The Vipers then managed to walk away with a 58-37 lead at the end of the second quarter.
The Capitanes led for the majority of the third quarter until the Vipers tied the game 73-73 with 3:35 to go. RGV then jumped away with an 86-80 lead to end the third.
RGV dominated the fourth quarter which allowed the team to walk away with a 110-96 victory over the Capitanes.
Cassius Stanley paved the way for the Vipers with 20 points. Houston Rockets Two-Way player Darius Days finished the night with a double-double 19 points and 15 rebounds. Jalen Lecque contributed 18 points while Ray Spalding came off the bench to score 14 points. Houston Rockets Two-Way player Trevor Hudgins put up 13 points and Mustapha Heron scored 11 points.
Mason Jones led the Capitanes with 17 points followed by Rigoberto Mendoza who had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kenneth Faried also had 15 points. Gary Clark and Alfonzo McKinnie each had 12 points. Jassel Perez finished the night with 11 points followed by Caio Pacheco with 10 points.
