Juzang Ignites Stars to Victory

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, came back in the second half to steal a 116-99 victory from the G League Ignite, completing their three-game road-trip.

The game was led by Utah Jazz two-way player Johnny Juzang, who recorded a season-high 30 points on 9-of-17 (.529) from the field and 4-of-7 (.571) from beyond the arc. The forward added eight rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes. The Stars bench shined bright with Stacy Davis adding a personal best 20-points and seven rebounds, while reserve Christian Vital tacked on 19 points, going 3-of-8 from downtown, along with four rebounds and four assists. Guard Frank Jackson tallied 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting, and Rawle Alkins contributed 10 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

Ignite was led by center Eric Mika, who finished with 22 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. John Jenkins, also tallied a 20-point performance with 21 points, including 5-of-15 from behind the arc. Off the bench, Babacar Sane recorded 13 points and nine rebounds, while London Johnson added an additional 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Despite Ignite leading the first half of the game, Salt Lake City ultimately claimed more field goals (43-38), served more assists (20-19) , grabbed more rebounds (47-45), and netted more three-point shots (13-8). While Ignite blocked more shots (7-1), and drew more fast break points (18-14).

The game began as a back-and-forth battle with seven lead changes and four ties. A driving layup by Juzang and a running shot by Ignite's King, ended the first quarter in a 24-24 tie. The second was claimed by the home-team, as Ignite went 34-24 in the frame, sending the Stars to the break trailing by nine.

Salt Lake City came out on fire in the third, led by Juzang who scored 17 points in the quarter and collected four-of-four penalty shots, ending the quarter 88-74. In the final stretch the Stars continued to build their biggest lead to 23 points before claiming the victory 116-99.

The Stars will return home for a back-to-back faceoff against the Memphis Hustle on Monday, Jan. 30, and Tuesday, Jan. 31. Both games, which tip off at 7 p.m. (MT) at the Maverik Center, will be streamed on NBAGLeague.com.
