
Vipers Come up Short against OKC Blue 101-98

HIDALGO, Texas, March 21, 2015 - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (24-20) fell 101-98 to the Oklahoma City Blue (24-20) tonight at State Farm Arena in a battle for the fourth seed in the western conference. The two teams are now tied for the spot.
Glen Rice, Jr. led the Vipers with 27 points. Houston Rockets assignee Clint Capela followed with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Travis Bader added 13 points. Jaron Johnson and Akil Mitchell scored 12 points apiece.
Chris Singleton led the Blue with 18 points. Dwight Buycks followed with a double-double 16 points and 13 assists. Marquis Teague and Semaj Christon each scored 15 points.
The Blue started the game with a 7-0 run. Bader made the Vipers' first points with consecutive three-pointers to set the score at 7-6. The score tied three times during the quarter as each team fought for a lead. OKC ended the first quarter on a 12-2 run that carried into the second quarter. At the 11:39 mark the Blue held a 33-23 advantage. Despite outscoring OKC 29-28 in the second quarter, the Vipers trailed 59-52 at the half.
RGV battled throughout the second half to close in on the Blue. Two minutes into the fourth quarter, Rice made a layup to tie the game at 82 points. Christon responded with a jump shot for OKC, and Capela followed with a layup to tie the game again at 84 points. However, Josh Huestis made a three-point shot to put the Blue ahead 87-84. At the 5:20 mark, Capela made a layup to put RGV within one point of OKC, 89-88, but the Vipers were not able to steal the lead.
The Vipers are back in action at home tomorrow when they host the Bakersfield Jam at 5 p.m. (CT) at State Farm Arena. Later this week, RGV plays host to the Texas Legends Wednesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. (CT).
