Stampede Fall to Blue, D-Fenders

El Segundo, CA - The Idaho Stampede fell to Vander Blue and the Los Angeles D-Fenders 122-110 Saturday night. Blue scored a game-high 40 points, giving Los Angeles its second consecutive win against Idaho.

The Stampede jumped out to a quick start, scoring 36 points in the first quarter on 62 percent shooting. Brandon Fields (11 points), Nick Wiggins (10 points), and Jerrelle Benimon (eight points) each looked to be on their way to big nights for the Stampede after the first quarter. Los Angeles answered in the second quarter however, closing the half on a 12-2 run and bringing the deficit down to just three points.

Blue scored 12 of his 40 points in the third quarter to help the D-Fenders take the lead from the Stampede for good. Idaho was outscored 51-66 in the second half and couldn't keep up with Los Angeles' fast pace.

Tre Bussey made his first appearance of the game in the fourth quarter and scored eight straight points to bring the Stampede within nine points with 2:51 remaining in the game, but the D-Fenders held on for the 122-110 victory.

Idaho was led by Jerrelle Benimon's 23 points and nine rebounds. Fields added 20 points and nine assists while Jared Cunningham pitched in with 20 points of his own.

Jamaal Franklin scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with Blue's 40 points. Los Angeles held a 54-42 rebounding advantage as they came back from a 13-point deficit to claim the win.

The Stampede travel to Reno tomorrow to play the Bighorns at 6 p.m.
