
Energy Win Close Game over Charge

Des Moines, Iowa - The Iowa Energy (23-20) won 85-84 over the Canton Charge (26-18) Saturday night at the Canton Memorial Civic Center in a game with playoff implications.
The Energy were led by Damien Wilkins with 21 points, Marcus Hall with 19 points and Willie Reed with 17 points and 10 rebounds for his ninth straight double-double. Memphis Grizzlies assignee Jarnell Stokes added nine points and 19 rebounds. Brandon Paul led the Charge with 15 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
It was a tight battle in the first half between the Energy and Charge with nine lead changes and six ties. The Charge briefly jumped out to a seven-point lead mid-way through the first quarter. Iowa was able to respond and close the gap to take a 22-21 lead heading into the second quarter. Canton would again open up a brief lead before Iowa closed the gap again in the second quarter. Damien Wilkins led the Energy in the half with 12 points while Stokes added 12 rebounds. Canton led 43-41 at halftime.
Iowa came out with a fast start in the third quarter quickly tying the game and taking the lead. The Energy opened up a six-point lead just past mid-way in the third for their largest lead of the game. Hall's eight points in the third helped Iowa take a 66-61 lead heading into the final quarter.
It was a battle down the stretch in the fourth with five more lead changes for a total of 20 in the game. Canton opened with a 7-0 run to regain the lead to begin the fourth. The Charge would then lead for most of the fourth before the Energy tied the game at 81-81 with :30.1 left to play. Marcus Hall hit the eventual game-winning three-pointer with :6.5 left on the clock to give the Energy a 85-84. Canton had several chances to take the lead in the final seconds, but the Energy defense held on for the win.
Iowa returns home Monday, March 23 on $1 Day at 7 p.m. against the Delaware 87ers.
