
Blue Holds off Vipers for 101-98 Win

HIDALGO, Texas - The Oklahoma City Blue held off the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to claim a 101-98 road win on Saturday. Six Blue players scored 12 or more points as Oklahoma City evened the season series with RGV at 3-3.
Chris Singleton led Oklahoma City with 18 points and eight rebounds while Dwight Buycks collected 16 points and 13 assists. Semaj Christon totaled 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists and fellow guard Marquis Teague scored 15 points. Maurice Sutton scored 12 points with seven boards and a pair of blocks and Frank Gaines produced 14 points off the bench.
The Blue opened the night by shooting 54.2 percent in the opening quarter to outscore the Vipers 31-23. Oklahoma City entered halftime with a 59-52 lead behind 14 points from Buycks. The Marquette produce distributed nine assists in the first two quarters - as many as the entire Vipers roster.
Oklahoma City led by as many as 13 points in the third quarter before RGV closed the frame with an 11-2 run to cut the Blue's lead to 82-78. The Vipers continued to chip away at the Blue's lead, tying the game at 84 with 8:25 remaining before five straight points by Oklahoma City. The Blue went up by six late in the game on a Christon layup off a backdoor cut with 41 seconds to play but three Vipers free throws cut the lead back to one possession.
Christon scored again, this time on a close-range second-chance jumper before Glenn Rice nailed a corner three for RGV to bring the game to 100-98 with 9.2 seconds on the clock. Christon made one free throw for OKC before the Blue's defense locked down and halted the Vipers on their final possession to seal the road win.
The Blue (24-20) outrebounded the Vipers 49-36.
Rio Grande Valley (24-20) was led by Rice's 27 points off the bench.
