Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

LHP Anthony Vasquez allowed one run over eight strong innings as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (47-56) picked up a 3-1 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (56-48) at PNC Field in Moosic on Monday night.

Vasquez (7-3) gave up the one run on five hits to go along with two walks and two strikeouts in his 8.0 IP. It is the southpaw's third outing of at least eight innings this season.

RHP Dustin McGowan (1.0 IP, H) retired the side in order in the ninth to notch his seventh save of the season.

The Pigs took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first as Chase d'Arnaud led off with a single, moved to second on a single and scored when a sharply hit line drive off the bat of Aaron Altherr deflected off the glove of RailRiders 3B Cole Figueroa and into left field.

In the top of the third, Tyler Henson (2-3, 3B, R) drove a one-out triple to center and later scored on Altherr's sac fly to open up a 2-0 advantage for Lehigh Valley.

With the bases loaded and nobody out in the home half of the same frame, Ben Gamel grounded into a 3-6 double play which allowed Kyle Roller to score from third and bring Scranton/Wilkes-Barre within a run at 2-1.

d'Arnaud (2-4, SB, 2 R) reached via a one-out single in the fifth, stole second and scored on Altherr's RBI infield single to give the Pigs a 3-1 lead.

RailRiders starter Esmil Rogers (1-1) gave up the three runs (two earned) on six hits while walking five and fanning six over 5.1 innings of work.

The brief two-game set wraps up on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. from PNC Field as LHP Jesse Biddle (2-0, 4.80) takes the mound for the Pigs against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RHP Diego Moreno (3-0, 2.18).
