Christian Walker Named IL Player of the Week

The International League today announced that Norfolk first baseman CHRISTIAN WALKER has been named the league's Batter of the Week. Walker is the second Norfolk player to receive the weekly honor this season, joining pitcher Chris Jones.

Walker, 24, batted .414 (12-29) with three home runs, four doubles, nine runs scored and 10 RBI in seven games this week, helping power Norfolk to a 6-1 homestand. The University of South Carolina product hit safely in six of seven contests during the week, registering multiple RBIs in four of those contests to help propel Norfolk to a season-high 3.0 game lead in the International League South Division.

Walker has hit safely in nine of his last ten games, over which he's hit .372 (16-43) with five home runs, five doubles and 15 RBI. Since the All-Star break, Walker ranks among IL"ˆleaders"ˆin total bases (1st, 36), extra-base hits (1st, 10), doubles (T-1st, 5), home runs (2nd, 5) and RBI (2nd, 15). The #3 prospect in the Orioles system according to Baseball America, Walker ranks among IL leaders this season in doubles (3rd, 26), at-bats (5th, 375), runs (6th, 50), total bases (T-6th, 152), and hits (9th, 100).

Buffalo pitcher Randy Wolf was named the league's Pitcher of the Week.

After an off day Monday, the Tides resume play Tuesday night in Pawtucket with a 7:05 contest against the Red Sox from McCoy Stadium.
