Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) fell to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 3-1 on Monday night, ending their five-game winning streak. The RailRiders slipped to 56-48 while the IronPigs improved to 47-56 and 6-4 in the "IronRail Series."
Starter Esmil Rogers (1-1) matched a season-best six strikeouts, but walked five hitters while allowing three runs and six hits across five innings. Anthony Vasquez hurled eight frames for Lehigh Valley, limiting SWB to a run on five hits. Dustin McGowan tossed a scoreless ninth for his seventh save.
Aaron Altherr produced all three runs for the IronPigs. With Chase d'Arnaud at third and two away in the first, Altherr lined a pitch towards Cole Figueroa at third base. The catch was missed and d'Arnaud scored as Altherr reached safely. The IronPigs' center fielder launched a sacrifice fly to center that scored Tyler Henson following a triple in the third. He polished his night with a run-scoring single in the fifth.
The RailRiders' only tally came in the third when Ben Gamel scored Kyle Roller on a bases-loaded, double play grounder to first.
The RailRiders finish their five-game homestand on Tuesday night against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at PNC Field. Right-hander Diego Moreno (3-0, 2.18) is scheduled to start against left-hander Jesse Biddle (2-0, 4.80).
