TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Jose Vargas matched a career-best with five runs batted in but the Schaumburg Boomers scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning, turning a three-run deficit into a three-run lead and held on to beat the Traverse City Beach Bums 12-9 on Wednesday night at Wuerfel Park.

Vargas got the scoring started for the Beach Bums with an RBI single in the last of the first inning to make it 1-0. The lead then changed hands five times between the third and fifth innings. Schaumburg took a 2-1 lead with a pair of tallies in the top of the third, but a Vargas two-run single pushed the Beach Bums back ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the frame.

The Boomers added a pair of runs on singles by Tyler Sciacca and Ty Nelson in the eighth to up the advantage to 12-9.
