Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA-Outfielder CJ Beatty's two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth lifted the first-place Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, to a 4-2 victory over the Rockford Aviators Wednesday at CONSOL Energy Park. The win was also the team's 40th of the season and keeps them at the top of the East Division.

Washington starter Zac Fuesser earned the win improving his overall record to 7-1 while Rockford starter Nick Grim suffered the loss. Fuesser allowed two runs on nine hits and struck out six.

After an hour and 59 minute delay due to passing storms through the Washington area, the Things scored early in the bottom of the second when second baseman Garrett Rau's RBI groundout scored first baseman William Beckwith, 1-0. The Wild Things added to their lead in the following inning after designated hitter Jose Dore, who led off the third with a double, came around to score on a sacrifice-fly by shortstop Ryan Kresky, 2-0.

Rockford even the game at two in the top of the sixth when left fielder Dusty Robinson lasered a two-run shot, his second of the season.

However, a leadoff walk to Kresky in the bottom of the sixth set the stage for outfielder CJ Beatty as he crushed the game-winning hit, a two-run home run to straight away center giving the Wild Things a 4-2 edge.

Washington closer Jonathan Kountis came in the top of the ninth and retired the side, striking out two Rockford hitters, building on his league-leading 23rd save of the season.

The Washington Wild Things and Rockford Aviators meet again Thursday for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. It's Country Night at the ballpark and Thirsty Thursday where all domestic draft beer and soda is just $1. For tickets, stop by the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office or redeem the BOGO offer for Thursday night on the team's social media accounts.
