FLORENCE, Ky. - Landon Hernandez smacked three two-run home runs and the Gateway Grizzlies edged the Florence Freedom 7-6 Wednesday night at UC Health Stadium.

Hernandez, who also hit three home runs in a game on August 3, 2013, tied the league-record for most home runs in a game. The last two three home run games in the league have come from Hernandez.

The Palm Desert, Calif. native finished the game 4-for-4 with three home runs and six runs batted in and helped the Grizzlies snap a five-game losing streak.

Hernandez gave the Grizzlies (38-26) a first inning lead with his first of three two-run home runs to make the score 2-0.

Florence (25-37) answered with two runs in the third inning and four in the fourth against Gateway starting pitcher Tucker Jensen.

Jensen lasted six-plus innings, surrendering six runs (five earned) on ten hits with two strikeouts.

Hernandez brought Gateway within two in the fifth inning on his second two-run home run and tied the game in the seventh on his third and final two-run home run.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth inning, Madison Beaird scored on a Chris Squires wild pitch to give the Grizzlies a one-run lead.

Luke Westphal (2-3) notched the win after pitching two scoreless innings of relief and Richard Barrett worked a scoreless ninth for his 12th save of the year and first since July 9th.

Gateway continues their six-game road trip Thursday night at Florence. Right-hander Tyler Thompson (3-2) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 5:35 central time.
