10th Annual Florence Freedom Striking out Cancer Night August 4
July 30, 2014 - Frontier League (FL)
Florence Y'alls News Release
(Florence, KY) - On Monday, August 4 the Florence Freedom will welcome cancer survivors to the ballpark for the team's annual Striking Out Cancer game presented by Thorntons.
More than 1,000 cancer survivors and their families are expected to come out for a night of honor, hope and encouragement. Thanks to sponsors, this event is free for the survivors and their families.
The signature moment in the Striking Out Cancer event will take place during what is normally the 7th inning stretch. During this time, the game will be stopped and all survivors will come down to the field and line up along the first and third base lines. While coming down to the field, they will be greeted by a standing ovation from the Freedom players and fans still in the stands.
Other festivities include the Freedom wearing pink jersey's saying "Hope" on the back. These jerseys will be auctioned off during the game through a silent auction. Proceeds from jersey sales will benefit the Susan G. Komen and I Have Wings Foundations.
What's more, five-time cornhole world champion Matt Guy will be in attendance challenging any fan to beat him in a game of cornhole. A successful defeat of the champ will award one fan a $50 Freedom gift card. All funds from those challenging the world champ at $5 per game will go to the I Have Wings Foundation.
Limited tickets are still available to survivors as new sponsors are anticipated to be added soon. Cancer survivors looking for tickets can contact the Freedom by emailing Chanel Lessing at clessing@florencefreedom.com.
Game time on August 4 is set for 6:35pm, with gates opening at 5:35pm.
