Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Scott Van Slyke had three more hits and an RBI single in the fourth inning as the Albuquerque Isotopes defeated the Round Rock Express, 5-2, Saturday night at Dell Diamond.

Tony Gwynn, Jr. and Dee Gordon also had RBI singles in the four-run fourth inning. Tim Federowicz, in his first game back with the Topes, hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Van Slyke has 26 RBIs in 22 games.

That was enough offense for the Topes pitchers.

Sean White (1-2) started in place of Matt Magill, who was called up to the majors and made his major-league debut against the Brewers. White allowed one run in a season-high 5 2/3 innings, allowed five hits, five walks and struck out five. The only run came on a solo homer by Chris McGuiness in the fifth inning.

Red Patterson stranded the two runners he inherited in the sixth inning, getting Jose Feliz on a grounder to third to escape the jam.

In the eighth, Aaron Cunningham doubled home a run to trim the Topes lead to 5-2. Kelvin De Cruz replaced Patterson with runners at second and third and none out. De La Cruz walked the first batter he faced to load the bases, then his first pitch to Feliz was a ball.

That brought manager Lorenzo Bundy to the mound for a rare visit when he's not taking out the pitcher. De La Cruz got the message. He struck out Feliz looking, struck out Engel Beltre swinging, then induced a groundout by Jurickson Profar to escape the bases-loaded jam without any additional runs scoring.

Steve Ames pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his second save of the season.

The finale of the series is Sunday afternoon. First pitch at 12:05 pm MDT. Angel Castro will start for the Topes and lefty Brad Mills will for the Express.
