April 28, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Iowa Cubs News Release

Papillion, NE - The Omaha Storm Chasers (14-8) scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and added at least one run in six of their other seven turns at bat in a 13-2 win over the Iowa Cubs (7-14) at Werner Park tonight. Xavier Nady was 5-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, and four RBI to lead the Storm Chasers on offense. The Storm Chasers lead this series 2-1 and the Cubs are 2-5 on this current road swing.

The Storm Chasers wasted no time in getting to Cubs' starter Drew Carpenter as the first six batters all reached base in the first. David Lough reached on an error by Ian Stewart at third base to start the rally. Nady, who played for the Chicago Cubs in 2010, drove in the first run with a bases loaded single and Carpenter walked former I-Cub Max Ramirez to force in the second run. Anthony Seratelli added a two-run double before Brett Hayes made the first out of the inning with a sacrifice fly to left. Irving Falu capped the rally with an RBI single. Carpenter (1-3) worked through three innings and would allowed eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits.

Storm Chasers' starter Brian Sanches (2-1) posted a quality start, allowing two runs on five hits in six innings. The Cubs scored both of their runs in the top of the third. Alberto Gonzalez led off with an infield single and scored when Logan Watkins drove a triple to the wall in left-center. Brett Jackson followed with a double down the first base line to bring in Watkins for his first RBI since April 13.

Cory Wade followed Carpenter to the mound and allowed three runs in two innings of work. Nady homered off him in the fourth inning and added a two-run double in the fifth. Casey Coleman pitched the Cubs' only scoreless inning in the sixth, but allowed a home run to Lough leading off the seventh. Seratelli led off the eighth with a solo homer off Yoanner Negrin for the Storm Chasers' final run. Omaha's 21 hits were the most allowed by the Cubs since Nashville collected 22 in a game on June 2, 2011.

Brian Bogusevic went 1-for-2 with a walk tonight and extended his hitting streak to 12 games, but Ryan Sweeney's 12-game streak ended after an 0-for-4 night at the plate.

The Cubs and Storm Chasers wrap up this series tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 at Werner Park. LH Brooks Raley (2-2, 3.22) will start for the Cubs against LH Brian Ryan Verdugo (1-1, 3.79) for the Storm Chasers. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed at iowacubs.com with the pre-game show starting at 1:45.
