Tucson Padres News Release
The Tucson Padres overcame a three-run deficit and scored six runs in the final five innings to defeat the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 7-4 Sunday at Kino Stadium. With the win, the Padres split the four-game series with the Sky Sox.
Colorado Springs took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on Tyler Colvin's ground-rule double that bounced over the right field fence. After the Padres scored one run in the second inning, the Sky Sox put up another two-run frame in the fourth to extend their lead to 4-1. Tucson started its comeback in the fourth when Gregorio Petit smashed a two-run home run into the left field bullpen.
The Padres took a 5-4 lead with no outs in the sixth on Dean Anna's two-run homer over the right field wall. Edwin Moreno added one more run in the inning with his first Triple-A hit to bring home Petit from third base. The Sky Sox had an opportunity to score with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh, but reliever Nick Vincent was able to work out of the jam. Brandon Allen extended Tucson's lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh with his third home run of the season.
Miles Mikolas pitched two scoreless frames to close out the game, earning his fourth save of the year. Padres starting pitcher Thad Weber improved to 3-0 after pitching six innings and allowing four runs on six hits. Manny Corpas was charged with the loss after the Padres scored three times against him in two innings.
