Aces Avoid Sweep with 11-2 Win
April 28, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-Each Reno batter collected at least one hit, and RHP Charles Brewer dealt a quality start en route to an 11-2 Aces victory over the Fresno Grizzlies on Sunday afternoon at Aces Ballpark.
Reno jumped on the board in the first inning for the third-straight game, pushing across three runs in the frame. Tyler Bortnick singled to lead off the inning, and Taylor Harbin followed with his second home run of the season.
The Aces continued to build on their lead, taking an 8-1 advantage into the bottom of the eighth. Fresno reliever Ramon Ramirez walked Taylor Harbin with the bases loaded to plate a run for Reno, and the Aces went on to push across two more runs in the frame to take an 11-1 lead.
Francisco Peguero hit a home run off Reno reliever Bo Schultz to lead off the ninth, bringing the final score to 11-2.
Matt Davidson went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Chris Owings recorded two hits, and is now tied with Albuquerque's Scott Van Slyke as the Pacific Coast League hits leader.
Brewer, who earned his first win of the season for his effort, held the Grizzlies to just one run on five hits through 8.0 spectacular innings of work. The lone run came on an RBI single in the third inning. Brewer recorded nine strikeouts in the stretch, the highest mark for an Aces starter this season.
Fresno LHP Michael Kickham was charged with his third-straight loss of the season. He gave up six earned runs on 11 hits through 5.0 innings, while striking out seven.
The Aces begin a four-game series against the Las Vegas 51's, top affiliate of the New York Mets, on Monday night at Aces Ballpark. LHP Tyler Skaggs (2-2, 4.50 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Fresno will counter with a yet to be announced starter. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. PT for another Margarita Monday presented by Alice at 96.5, featuring half-price margaritas.
