Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - The Rainiers collected a 5-3 win over Las Vegas 51s at Cashman Field on Sunday, securing Tacoma's first series sweep since 2010 and stretching the team's winning streak to a season-high four games.
Tacoma trailed 3-2 through six innings before posting a two-run rally in the top of the seventh. Outfielder Stefen Romero singled a soft fly ball to center field to plate Alex Liddi for the game-tying run. Carlos Triunfel put the Rainiers ahead for good with a double to left that drove in Romero.
Nick Franklin gave the Rainiers an early 1-0 lead after hitting a solo home run with one out in the top of the first inning. Franklin ended the day 1-for-3 with two runs scored to extend his hitting streak to nine games.
Eric Thames and Rich Poythress each collected two hits, leading a lineup that combined to collect eight hits on Sunday. Thames is riding a 12-game hitting streak and has now reached base in each of Tacoma's first 24 games this season.
Reliever Tyler Burgoon earned a winning decision in his Triple-A debut. Burgoon limited Las Vegas to one run on one hit and struck out three over 2.1 innings. Right-hander Logan Bawcom collected his fourth save over his last four appearances following 2.0 shutout innings over the eighth and ninth.
Left-hander James Paxton surrendered two runs on five hits over 4.2 innings in his fifth start this season. The left-hander struck out five and walked two.
The Rainiers (14-10) now head back to Tacoma to begin an eight-game homestand that opens with a four-game series against the Tucson Padres. Right-hander Brian Sweeney (2-0, 3.78) is set to start for Tacoma against Padres right-hander Eddie Bonine (0-1, 6.00) in the first game of the series scheduled for 6 p.m. tomorrow, April 29th.
