Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced Alain Valiquette has been named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 29 - Mar. 6.
Valiquette, 25, went 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .978 save percentage in his first two appearances with Greenville last week, both against Atlanta. He made 46 saves on 47 shots in a 6-1 win at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Saturday before following that up with a 42-save performance in Duluth, Georgia on Sunday.
A native of Sudbury, Ontario, Valiquette played two games with Elmira prior to being traded to the Swamp Rabbits last Thursday. He earned the win in his first pro start with the Jackals on Feb. 27 at Wheeling.
Valiquette played four seasons in the CIS, the last three for Laurentian University, with a combined record of 25-36-0, a 3.28 goals-against-average and a .906 save percentage. He also played four full seasons for the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League where he posted a record of 50-67-6, four shutouts, a 3.28 goals-against average and an .893 save percentage. He helped lead the Wolves to the Ontario Hockey League's Eastern Conference Semifinals in 2010-11, when he posted a career high 27 wins.
It's the second time this season a Swamp Rabbits' goaltender has won the league's weekly honor. Adam Morrison was named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Oct. 19 - 25.
