Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced the team has signed rookie winger Kevin King out of the University of Calgary (Dinos).
King, 26, played each of the last five seasons with the Dinos and recorded 101 points (37g, 64a), 190 penalty minutes and a +30 rating in 124 collegiate games. He ranked second on the club with 24 assists and 32 points during the 2013-14 campaign, both career highs. In addition, King spent each of the last four seasons playing alongside Swamp Rabbits defenseman Kodie Curran.
A Calgary native, King split the 2011-12 season between the Dinos, the AHL's Syracuse Crunch and the Elmira Jackals. Following a 12-game stint with the University of Calgary, he made his professional debut with Syracuse on Oct. 23, 2011 at Hershey, one of five contests with the Crunch. King went on to record five points (1g, 4a) in eight games with Elmira including his ECHL debut on Nov. 25, 2011 against Trenton.
Prior to his collegiate and professional careers, the 6'1, 195-pound forward spent five seasons with the Kootenay Ice (Western Hockey League) from 2006-11. There, he played alongside former Greenville netminders Mackenzie Skapski (2010-11) and Nathan Lieuwen (2009-11), who each progressed to the NHL with New York and Buffalo respectively. King notched 227 points (95g, 132a) and a +26 rating in 335 games with Kootenay and ranked top-three in scoring during each of his last three seasons with the Ice.
