Unbeaten Streak Reaches Four Games as Pens' Edge Binghamton, 4-3

WILKES-BARRE, PA - Kris Beech broke a 3-3 tie with a power play goal late in the third period as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins extended their unbeaten streak to a season-high four games (3-0-1) with a 4-3 win over the Binghamton Senators before a crowd of 8,317 on Wednesday at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.

Beech scored the game-winning goal on a 5-on-3 power play for the Penguins, who were 0-for-7 on the man-advantage until his goal. With Dennis Bonvie off for tripping, Steve Bancroft was sent to the penalty box for a delay of game penalty at 13:19. The Penguins scored 41 seconds into the two-man advantage as Beech scored his 15th goal of the season at 13:50 to give the Penguins a 4-3 lead. The Senators took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period as Brian Pothier scored his fifth goal of the season on the power play at 13:41. The Penguins tied the game late in the period as newly acquired Penguin Richard Lintner scored his seventh goal of the season with a shot from the top of the left face off circle that beat goaltender Ray Emery at 18:29.

The Penguins took a 2-1 lead early in the second period as Toby Petersen scored his 17th goal of the season at 2:59. The goal extended Petersen's point streak to eight games.

Early in the third period, Binghamton struck again on the power play as Antoine Vermette scored his 18th goal of the season at 5:43 to tie the game at 2-2. The Senators went on another power play a few minutes later as defenseman Rob Scuderi was called for interference 5:36, but Pens' took the lead a 3-2 lead as Bobby Russell intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and scored on a breakaway at 7:29.

Just 41 seconds after Russell's goal, Vermette knocked home a rebound past goaltender Robbie Tallas for his second goal of the game and 19th of the season to even the game at 3-3.

Chris Bala led Binghamton with three assists and Brian Pothier added a goal and one assist for the first-place Senators. Along with a goal, Bobby Russell added an assist and rookie forward Matt Murley collected two assists for the Penguins.

Tallas made 36 saves to improve his record to 12-9-1, while Emery made a season-high 46 saves in a losing effort

For the fifth time in the last eight games, the Penguins recorded 40 or more shots in a game as they outshot the Senators, 50-39. It was the second time this season that the Penguins have recorded 50 shots in a game.

With the win, the Penguins improved to 25-23-4-3 (57 points), while Binghamton fell to 27-18-7-1 on the season. The Penguins are now 2-3 against the Senators.

The Penguins will begin a stretch of three games in three nights on Saturday as they visit the Albany River Rats on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Pepsi Arena. The Penguins will play the Senators on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena and then return home to host the Philadelphia Phantoms on Monday (Feb. 17) at 5:05 p.m. at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.
