Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose are proud to announce that Winnipeg-born Cindy Klassen and Chris Jericho will be featured in the ceremonial drop of the puck during Moose games over the next week. WWE wrestler Chris Jericho will be dropping the puck at tomorrow's match (Friday, Feb. 14) and world all-round speed skating champion Cindy Klassen will be in the city to drop the puck at next week's game on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Cindy Klassen, born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, became the all-round world speed skating champion on Feb. 9, 2003. She was the first Canadian woman to win the all-round title in 27 years (Winnipeg-born Sylvia Burka was the first). Klassen won the all-round with the best combined results in four different events - the 500 metre, 1,500m, 3,000m and the 5,000m. The 23 year-old speed skater has seen her career skyrocket since she began speed skating in 1997 and made the junior national team in February 1999. During the pre-Olympic season of 2001, she placed fourth in the World Championships and won a 1500m bronze medal in the World Single Distance Championships. At the 2002 Winter Olympic games in Salt Lake City, Klassen was rewarded with a bronze medal in the 3000m race.
Chris Jericho has been wrestling professional for over 13 years. He has been on many wrestling circuits but now, since his RAW TV show debut in August 1999, Jericho is one of the top superstars in the WWE. He was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and has held numerous wrestling titles and was the WWE Undisputed Champion last year. Jericho will be wrestling in front of his hometown fans during the main event at the Winnipeg Arena on Saturday, Feb. 15. He is best known for his finishing move called the Walls of Jericho.
The start time for tomorrow's contest at the Winnipeg Arena against the Hamilton Bulldogs is at 7:30 p.m. CT with the same start time for the Wednesday tilt versus the Houston Aeros.
