Two-Out Trouble Spells Defeat for the Tourists

Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE - The Asheville Tourists had all kinds of problems closing out innings against the West Virginia Power on Thursday night. The visitors plated ten of their 12 runs in the game in several different fashions but with one commonality; the Tourists were one out away from closing out an inning. Asheville did manage to hang around but eventually fell 12-7.

The Tourists jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a Will Golsan solo Home Run in the first inning and a two-run double by Golsan in the second. The Power plated their first run in the third inning and then took the lead with three runs in the fourth.

The Power scored twice in the fifth but Asheville used a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kyle Datres in the bottom half to make it 6-4. Unfortunately, that is when things fell apart for the Tourists. West Virginia scored six runs in the top of the sixth, all with two outs, and hung around at the plate for 33 minutes.

Asheville used an RBI groundout in the seventh to make it 12-5 and added two more in the bottom of the ninth. Javier Guevara's RBI single served as the game's final run. The Tourists did have the bases loaded with two outs in their last at-bat; however, the Power were able to leave the tying run in the on-deck circle.

Coco Montes led the way for Asheville with four hits. Daniel Montano scored three runs and reached base four times along with Terrin Vavra. Willie MacIver also chipped in two hits. Nick Kennedy and Mike Nikorak both tossed scoreless innings out of the Tourists bullpen. Asheville's offense worked a season-high nine walks but the Tourists allowed a season-high 18 hits to the Power.

Both teams are back at it Friday night at McCormick Field with the first pitch slated for 7:05pm.
