Rome Emperors News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - The Drive pitching staff shutout the Braves once again on Friday night, this time in a 2-0 defeat on a soggy evening in South Carolina.
Following a twelve minute rain delay at the outset, the Braves were held to five hits and no walks. It was the Braves third straight defeat overall. Rome suffered the loss despite another strong pitching performance from their arms including the best outing so far this season for starting pitcher RHP Odalvi Javier. The Dominican native threw 4 scoreless innings and had seven strikeouts. He allowed two hits and three walks.
The Drive broke the scoreless tie in the 6th inning off the bat of Grant Williams who delivered a line drive single into centerfield to score a pair of runs. It was the only offense provided by either team Friday night. Rome went quietly late in the game. Their only base-runner after the 5th inning reached on an error in the 9th.
Darling Florentino went 1-3 with a double. Trey Harris was 1-4 with a double, giving him eight extra-base hits on the season.
During the current three game losing skid the Braves have scored a total of one run. Despite their overall 5-10 record, Rome still has a positive run differential.
The Braves and Drive conclude their three game series at Flour Field on Saturday evening at 7:05 pm. Rome RHP Alan Rangel will be making his first start of the season. He'll be opposed by Greenville RHP Alex Scherff.
