Two-Game Series Propels Rafters into All-Star Break

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (6-4) play their last two games before the all-star break with a road series against the Madison Mallards (6-4) on Saturday

Currently tied for second place in the Great Lakes West Division, the series between the Rafters and Mallards will be critical in determining division standings before the all-star break. Wisconsin Rapids is currently one game behind Green Bay.

Wisconsin Rapids will start Neil Abbatiello tonight. The all-star lefty has a 1.26 ERA and leads the team with 37 strikeouts in 35.2 innings. Quinn Gudaitis, who has a 5-1 record and a 4.03 ERA, gets the nod for Madison.

The Rafters are currently 3-3 against Madison this season as the two teams will face off a total of twelve times by the end of the summer. Wisconsin Rapids looks to head into the all-star break on a winning note, closing the series on Sunday in Madison.

The Rafters have four players representing the Cranberry and Gold at the Northwoods League All-Star Game in Waterloo, Iowa. Outfielder Richie Schiekofer and catcher Jake Dunham, along with pitchers Abbatiello and Matt Osterberg were selected.

When the team returns to Historic Witter Field on July 18, there will be a special guest appearance by former Packer and Super Bowl champion Nick Collins, presented by Solarus, as the Rafters take on the Kenosha Kingfish.
