Waterloo Bucks News Release
The Waterloo Bucks (24-22, 4-6) supplied the in-game fireworks with a 14-6 victory over the Eau Claire Express (26-20) on Friday evening. Each starter reached base, and eight of nine picked up a hit.
Trey Leonard (2-3, BB, 3 R, 3B, RBI) opened the ball game by drawing a walk, moving to third on a Bennett Hostetler (2-4, BB, R) single. All-Star Dylan Phillips (4-5, 4 R, 2B, 3 RBI) brought home Leonard with a run-scoring fielder's choice. A strikeout and a walk to Patrick Ferguson (1-4, BB, 2 R, RBI) brought Alonzo Rubalcaba (2-4, 2B, 4 RBI, SF) to the plate. The Bucks' catcher lined a two-run single to center, giving Waterloo a 3-0 lead after one.
Phillips scored Leonard again in the second by ripping an RBI single to center. Following a four-run Eau Claire third, Kyler Arenado (1-3, 2 BB, 2 R) drew a two-out fourth-inning walk. Leonard tripled to deep center, knocking in Arenado then scoring himself on a wild pitch.
In the fifth, Phillips led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch then scored on a Blake Wagenseller (1-4, BB, R, 2 RBI) single. A passed ball and a wild pitch moved Wagenseller to third, prompting a Rubalcaba sacrifice fly. The Bucks added two more in the seventh with a Ferguson RBI single followed by a Rubalcaba run-scoring double.
Jack Parkinson earned his third win with 5.0 innings of six-hit baseball, allowing just two earned runs while walking one and striking out five. The righthander racked up 10 whiffs on 86 pitches.
Arenado, pinch-hitter Mike Nyisztor and Hostetler drew three straight walks to open the eighth. Phillips grounded an RBI single to right, then Wagenseller drew a bases-loaded walk. Wild pitches scored both Hostetler and Phillips, giving the Bucks their final tallies.
Alec Holcomb fired 2.0 scoreless innings of relief with a pair of walks and two strikeouts, while Brandon Vial finished off the game with 2.0 frames of one-hit work, allowing an unearned run with two punchouts.
The Bucks head to Mankato for a 6:05 p.m. Saturday start on the Bucks Radio Network powered by 1650 The Fan.
