Two Five-Run Innings Hurt Aces in Loss

Reno Aces News Release
ALBUQUERQUE - A five-run lead wasn't big enough for the Reno Aces (@Aces) in an 11-8 loss to the Albuquerque Isotopes Wednesday night at Isotopes Park.
Reno held a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the second inning after coming up with the first big inning of the night. It started when Jamie Romak launched a solo home, his 14th of the season, to lead-off the inning.
After Albuquerque starter Jair Jurrjens retired Garrett Weber (@_weber5) on a groundout, the Aces came through with five singles in the frame. Matt Pagnozzi (@MattPagnozzi) made it 2-0 with a run-scoring base hit, and a Nick Buss (@chilibuss) RBI single gave the Aces (37-43) a 3-0 lead.
It didn't end there as Jordan Pacheco (@Jstylep) brought in Pagnozzi and Buss with a two-run knock to make it a five-run top of the second inning.
The large lead was short-lived, however, as the Isotopes (35-45) scored five in the bottom half of the second to even the game.
The first run scored on a fielding error by first baseman Nick Evans. It opened the floodgates as Cristhian Adames followed with a two-run double, and Kyle Parker capitalized with a two-out, two-run triple to even the game at 5-5.
The Aces got the lead back when Cody Ransom (@ransom_cody) drove in a run with a double in the third, and Weber doubled in another run to make it 7-5 in the fifth.
Again, it didn't last. The 'Topes sent ten to the plate in the bottom of the sixth and scored five runs to jump in front, 10-7. Reliever Seth Simmons (@SizzleSimmons95) was charged with five runs in one-third of an inning of work.
Down 11-7, the Aces had opportunities in the eighth and ninth innings to change the outcome. With the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth, Albuquerque shortstop Trevor Story made a diving stop on a ball hit by Romak up the middle to end the inning.
With a run across in the ninth inning and trailing 11-8, Buss came to the plate with runners at first and second and two out. He hit a ball up the middle that was fielded by the second baseman Adames who fired to first to get Buss on a bang-bang play and end the game.
The Aces got multi-hit games from Todd Glaesmann (@toddglaesmann22), Ransom and Pagnozzi, but it wasn't enough to overcome Albuquerque's 13 hits and 10 walks at the plate.
Game three of the series is set for Thursday night in Albuquerque. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. PST.
After the brief four-game trip to Albuquerque, the Aces return home for a nine-game homestand set to begin on Saturday, July 4.
