Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds dropped their third straight contest to the Oklahoma City Dodgers, giving up three home runs in an 8-4 defeat on Thursday night at AutoZone Park.
With three more home runs, including back-to-back for the second straight night, the Dodgers gone yard eight times through the first three games of the series. On Friday at AutoZone Park, Memphis will look to avoid its first four-game series sweep since June 14-17, 2013 at Albuquerque.
Outfielder Tommy Pham (2-for-4) hit a home run for the second day in a row, a game-tying two-run blast in the fifth inning. Twelve of Pham's 25 hits this season have gone for extra bases.
Oklahoma City jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Darnell Sweeney led off the game with a triple and scored on an Austin Barnes sacrifice fly. The clubs added two more runs in the next frame, highlighted by a Sweeney RBI single.
Memphis got two runs back in the next frame as Pham singled and scored on a Jacob Wilson base hit to center. Two batters later, Matt Williams plated Wilson on a double to left.
Sweeney doubled and scored Oklahoma City's next run for a 4-2 lead in the fifth, before went yard into the Redbirds dugout.
The Dodgers quickly went back ahead in the next inning on Scott Schebler's solo home run, and later tacked on two more thanks to back-to-back-jacks from Darwin Barney and Corey Seager.
Redbirds starter John Gast yielded eight runs (six earned) on six hits, including a season-high three home runs in the loss.
The Redbirds and Dodgers complete the four-game series with a 6:05pm CT contest on Friday as the Redbirds celebrate Independence Day. A patriotic fireworks display will follow the action on the field, presented by AutoZone. As part of the special evening, the Redbirds will don special red, white, and blue Independence Day-themed jerseys and hats, presented by AutoZone, which will be available for purchase through an in-game silent auction.
A pair of a great buffet packages are available that includes a ticket to the game, all-you-can-eat dinner buffet from 5:30pm-7pm, and a patriotic postgame fireworks. Gates open at 4pm for another great Block Party.
