PCL1 El Paso Chihuahuas

Grizzlies Defeat Chihuahuas 5-1 Wednesday

July 2, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
El Paso Chihuahuas News Release

Fresno's pitching staff struck out 14 batters in the Grizzlies' 5-1 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas Wednesday night at Southwest University Park. Abraham Almonte went 2-for-4 atop the order for the Chihuahuas in the loss.

The Grizzlies scored three runs on three hits and two walks in the top of the first inning against El Paso starter Chris Smith. It was an uncharacteristic inning by Smith, who had allowed only one run in his most recent 15 innings before Wednesday's start.

Rymer Liriano's RBI single got the Chihuahuas within two in the bottom of the fourth. The 3-1 score held until the eighth when Matt Duffy's home run off the center field batter's eye in the top of the eighth provided Fresno with two insurance runs.

The Chihuahuas threatened late, putting multiple baserunners aboard in both the eighth and ninth innings, but did not score in either frame.
