Two Carolina Draft Picks Join Albany's Roster

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that they have signed Carolina Hurricanes' draft picks Chris Terry (LW) and Brett Bellemore (D) to Amateur Tryout Agreements.

Terry, 18, was drafted by Carolina in the fifth round (132nd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. The Brampton, Ontario native exploded for a career year in 2007-08, his third year with the Plymouth Whalers, leading his team in points (101), goals (44), assists (57), games played (68) and plus/minus (+12). Terry (5'10", 195 lbs) finished sixth overall in the Ontario Hockey League in points and goals and 11th in assists, being named to the Western Conference All-Star Team in February. Terry, who will turn 19 years old on April 7th, holds the franchise record for consecutive regular season games played (168) from January 5th, 2006 to March 16th, 2008, he became the 14th Whalers player to record a 100-point season and he ranks 13th on the Plymouth all-time regular season points list with 195 points (75 goals, 120 assists) in 200 career OHL games. Terry had 18 points (8 goals, 10 assists) in 20 playoff games as the Whalers captured the 2007 OHL Championship and earned a berth into the 2007 Memorial Cup tournament; the Whalers lost to host Vancouver in the finals.

Bellemore, 19, was Carolina's next pick (sixth round, 162nd overall) in the same 2007 NHL Entry Draft. The Windsor, Ontario native enjoyed the best offensive season of his three-year junior, scoring a career-high 24 points (6 goals, 18 assists), which ranked 10th best on Plymouth, and recording 70 penalty minutes. Bellemore (6'4", 194 lbs) had five assists in 20 playoff games of the Whalers 2007 OHL Championship run and tallied on assist in the 2007 Memorial Cup tournament. During the 2006-07 season he led all Canadian Hockey League and OHL skaters with a +48 plus/minus rating and was named Plymouth's Most Improved Player.

The River Rats continue their stretch of seven straight road games on Wednesday, April 2nd against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Wachovia Arena. Albany's next home game is on Wednesday, April 9th against the Norfolk Admirals; a 7:00 pm face off at the Times Union Center.
