Manitoba Moose News Release

With wins over Lake Erie and Rochester this past week, the Manitoba Moose clinched a playoff spot, set a new franchise record for longest road winning streak, and tied their record for most consecutive wins at 10 games. A shootout loss at Rochester ended that 10-game streak but continued another record-tying run -- 13 consecutive games of gaining a point. The following night, that point streak concluded when the club dropped a 6-1 decision to Toronto.

Tuesday, March 25, 2008: Manitoba 7 - Lake Erie 2 W

Although the Monsters scored the first and last goals of the game, the Moose churned out seven unanswered in between -- including five from rookies -- to crush the Monsters 7-2 Tuesday night. The victory extended Manitoba's winning streak to nine games and set the new franchise record for longest road winning streak at seven games.

Wednesday, March 26, 2008: Manitoba 4 - Rochester 1 W

As in Manitoba's previous two games, an early opponent goal did little to cool the red hot Moose Wednesday night. Four unanswered goals and 23 saves from Drew MacIntyre propelled the Moose to a 4-1 victory over the Americans and a franchise record-tying 10th straight win.

Friday, March 28, 2008: Manitoba 4 - Rochester 5 SOL

An early four-goal deficit seemed to spell disaster for the Moose Friday night, but four unanswered goals in the final two periods forced extra time in the rematch vs. the Americans. The valiant Moose comeback wouldn't carry the club to a franchise-record 11th straight win, however, as goalie Tyler Plante backstopped the Americans to a 5-4 shootout victory.

Saturday, March 29, 2008: Manitoba 1 - Toronto 6 L

Though the Moose out-shot the Marlies 32-30 Saturday night, Toronto's potent powerplay unit and sturdy goaltender Scott Clemmensen carried the club to a 6-1 victory. For the Moose, the loss ended a franchise-record 13-game point streak. (view game recap)

This week, the Moose host the two hottest teams in the Western Conference in the final four home games of the regular season. Manitoba's longtime rivals, the Chicago Wolves, roar into town for games Tuesday and Wednesday nights, while the Moose will seek redemption for last week's loss in games vs. the Toronto Marlies Friday and Saturday nights.

UPCOMING OPPONENTS

Tuesday, Apr. 1 & Wednesday, Apr. 2: The Moose and Wolves (48-19-2-3, 1st West) carry one win and one loss each into this week's games at the MTS Centre. Goaltenders stole the spotlight in both games between the clubs earlier this season, with Chicago's Robert Gherson earning a 2-0 shutout on Feb. 10/08 and Manitoba's Drew MacIntyre earning the game-winning goal to secure a 2-1 overtime win on Feb. 20. Over 11 IHL and AHL seasons the Moose are 29-36-3-7 vs. the Wolves and hold an AHL record of 6-4-1-3 in Winnipeg. Jason Krog tops the Wolves and league scoring list with 100 points (35g + 65a) in 72 games, while former Moose Jesse Schultz is third in the club with 23 goals and 61 points in 72 games. Gherson is the team's best backstopper with a 6-6-0 record, 2.63 GAA, and 0.916 SV%.

Friday, Apr. 4 & Saturday, Apr. 5: After Saturday night's 6-1 loss to Toronto (46-18-3-6, 1st North), the Moose dropped to 2-3-0-0 this season and 15-4-1-1 overall vs. the Marlies. Manitoba split their first home series vs. the Marlies on Feb. 26 & 17/08, bringing their all-time record to 7-2-0-1 when hosting Toronto. David Ling leads Toronto in scoring with 14 goals and 54 points, while Justin Pogge is the club's best backstopper with a 24-9-4 record, 2.31 GAA, and 0.909 SV%.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE

#20 Brad Moran - Centre

For the fifth time this season, Brad Moran has been nominated for the Moose Player of the Week. Moran has been red-hot during the month of the March and this past week was no exception as he appeared in all four games with the team and recorded a goal and seven assists for eight points. Those points extended Moran's points streak to a season-high nine games which is just two games shy of the franchise record. He set a new franchise mark by extending his multi-points streak to seven games before it came to end with only one assist in Saturday's 6-1 defeat to Toronto. Moran also finished the week with 12 shots on net and was even in the plus/minus category.

In the month of March alone, Moran picked up 21 points in just 13 games (5G, 16A), including 18 points (4G, 14A) during Manitoba's franchise-record tying 10-game winning streak. Moran is now sixth in entire AHL in scoring with 72 points and is fifth in the league in assists with 51. He also leads the Moose in game-winning goals with six and shots on goal with 173.

MOOSE NOTES

A FRESH START: Three team streaks and a pair of individual streaks came to an end this past weekend. A shootout loss in Rochester Friday night and a 6-1 defeat in Toronto Saturday concluded Manitoba's record-setting road winning streak (eight games) as well as their record-tying overall winning streak (10 games) and point streak (13 games). The records were previously established in 2004-05, 1999-2000, and 1997-98 respectively. The individual streaks that came to an end were Brad Moran's multi-point game streak (a franchise record seven games, Mar. 15-28) and rookie goalie Cory Schneider's winning streak (a record-tying nine games, Feb. 17 - Mar. 19). Despite the end of those streaks, Moran's nine-game point streak and Schneider's 10-game unbeaten streak continue into this week's games.

A MARCH TO REMEMBER: By going 10-1-0-2 through March, the Moose posted their best-ever March and their second most-successful month in franchise history. Last season, Manitoba set their best previous March record (10-3-0-1, .750). March 2007 marked the second consecutive month the Moose earned 10 wins, as the club went 10-1-1-0 (.875) in February '07. The Moose earned their best monthly win percentage that February, a record the current club approached by going .846 in March. Manitoba has now finished at or above .500 in March for seven straight seasons.

SEVEN GAMES, SIX RECORDS: The current Moose squad has already set the franchise record for consecutive road wins (eight games) and matched the records for overall win streak (10 games) and point streak (13 games), but with seven games left to play (four home, three away), the club is still capable of breaking six franchise records:

1. Six more wins will break the record for most wins in a season (47, 1998-99);

2. Two more road wins will break the road win record (23, 1998-99);

3. 13 more points will break the team's AHL record for most points in a season (102, 2006-07);

4. 33 opponent goals or less will break the record for fewest goals against (201, 2006-07);

5. 111 penalty minutes or less will break the record for fewest penalty minutes (1394, 2003-04);

6. Five powerplay goals or less will break the record for fewest powerplay goals (70, 1996-97).
