Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE, KY - After trailing for the first four innings against Southern Illinois, the Florence Y'alls scored twelve unanswered runs between the fourth and sixth innings to take a commanding lead on the way to a 13-5 mashing of the Miners Friday night at Y'alls Ballpark.

The Miners jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but the Y'alls went to work in the fifth inning to start the offensive onslaught. The bottom of the order set the table with Jose Brizuela drawing a one-out walk and then scoring on a Connor Crane RBI-triple. Axel Johnson followed with an RBI-single, and with Luis Pintor joining Johnson on the bases, Chad Sedio brought both home with another single to give Florence a 5-3 lead.

The Y'alls (47-33) were back at it again in the sixth with five more runs. With the bases loaded, Pintor drove in two runs with a base hit, and Sedio followed with a two-run triple to extend the lead to 10-3. Florence capped its scoring in the seventh inning with a Crane RBI-single and a two-run double for Pintor.

The win for the Y'alls comes after a one hour, 30 minute rain delay which pushed the start of the ballgame to just after 8:30p ET. It is the third consecutive win for Florence, and it gives the Y'alls a two-game lead ahead of Southern Illinois for second place in West Division. Evansville still controls first place by 1.5 games.

Pintor had a monster day at the plate for the Y'alls with four hits and four RBI. Sedio also drove in four runs on two hits, and Johnson and Crane had two RBI on two hits. The offense backed a quality start from Johnathon Tripp, who gave up three runs across six 1/3 innings to earn his fourth consecutive win and his seventh as a starter. The righty struck out five and scattered seven hits. Alex Wagner pitched the rest of the game and allowed just two unearned runs in the eighth to close out the win.

Ariel Sandoval hit a two-run home run in the first inning for the Miners, followed by a solo shot for Anthony Brocato in the second to supply early the scoring for Southern Illinois (46-36). Chase Cunningham allowed just one run through four innings before the wheels fell off the wagon in the fifth. The righty - who is second in Frontier League history with 39 career wins - takes the loss after giving up five earned runs over five innings.

The second game of the series is set for tomorrow, Saturday, August 28, at 6:36p ET. Jared Cheek looks to lead Florence to its fourth consecutive win, opposed by Jake Fisher for the Miners. Gates open at 5:36p ET.
