FLORENCE, Ky. - With home runs from second baseman Andres Rios and shortstop Luis Pintor, the Florence Y'alls clinched a series victory over the Southern Illinois Miners on Saturday Night at Y'alls Ballpark.
The Y'alls took a pair of two-run leads, each immediately answered by two Miners runs to tie the ballgame up. Florence took the lead for the final time on a two-out, two-strike passed ball on Southern Illinois catcher Cody Erickson in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Despite allowing 13 hits on the day, Florence tossed three clutch double plays in the ball game. Southern Illinois stranded seven runners on base.
Jared Cheek gets his seventh win of the season after throwing seven innings in which he scattered 11 hits and allowed four runs. Joe Dougherty recorded his 12th save of the season while lowering his ERA to 1.86 on the season.
The two teams will meet one final time this season at Y'alls Ballpark on Sunday at 2:59. Florence has yet to lose to Southern Illinois at home this season and are 8-3 overall against the Miners in 2021.
